    Abstract

Vietnamese F&B venues now take more than two-thirds of in-venue payments via QR (VietQR, MoMo, ZaloPay). This report breaks the mix down by city, daypart, ticket size and venue type so operators can right-size their settlement, reconciliation and POS hardware.

    QR overtook everything else

In Q1 2026, QR (VietQR + MoMo + ZaloPay combined) reached 67% of in-venue F&B transactions nationwide, passing card (18%) and cash (15%) combined. The shift accelerated between 2023–2025 as VietQR reached universal bank-app coverage.

Regional variance is real: HCMC sits at 74% QR, Hanoi 65%, Da Nang 59%, and Tier-2 cities cluster around 50–55%. Cash holds out longest at street-food and traditional quán ăn under VND 80k ticket.

Daypart matters more than venue type

Weekday lunch is QR-dominant across all venue types (78%) — office workers paying solo from their banking app. Friday and Saturday dinner shifts toward card as group bills cross VND 380k. Cash sees its only meaningful share at breakfast and late-night street food.

    What it means for reconciliation

A multi-outlet brand now reconciles at least three QR rails plus card plus cash, daily. Each rail settles on its own cycle (VietQR T+1, MoMo T+1, ZaloPay T+1, card T+2). A POS that doesn't surface per-rail settlement status forces the accountant to chase missing money.

    Methodology

Computed from anonymised LOOP transaction data, 2025-11-01 to 2026-04-30 (n ≈ 165 outlets across 6 Vietnamese cities, ≈ 4.2M payment events). Payment rail attribution comes from the gateway-of-record per transaction; ambiguous events (~1.3%) are excluded.
