Answer
Does a restaurant POS need loyalty built in?

Quick answer
No. A POS exists to take orders accurately, control stock and close the day, while loyalty is a marketing job that depends on customer identity, messaging and timing — different data, different people, different rhythm. Bundling the two usually means a weak version of both, which is why retention in our ecosystem lives in a separate product, PEKO, that runs on top of any POS rather than inside ours.
The case for built-in loyalty is convenience: one login, one bill. The case against is what happens next. Loyalty programmes need frequent changes — offers, segments, message copy, timing — and a POS release cycle is the wrong place for weekly marketing changes.
There is also a lock-in problem. If your member base lives inside the till software, changing POS means abandoning your customers or exporting a list that no longer works. Keeping retention separate means the POS decision and the customer decision are independent.
What a POS should own
- • Order accuracy, modifiers and kitchen routing.
- • Recipe-level stock and variance.
- • Shifts, permissions and cash control.
- • Daily close and per-outlet reporting.
What a retention platform should own
- • Customer identity across visits and channels.
- • Who is about to lapse, and what message brings them back.
- • Messaging on the channel the customer actually uses — WhatsApp in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, Zalo in Vietnam.
- • Offer economics: what a win-back costs and what it returned.
How LOOP POS and PEKO fit together
LOOP POS and PEKO are two products from the same company, Hungry Bear Internet Pte. Ltd. Use LOOP POS if you need a POS. Use PEKO if you already have a POS and need retention — it runs alongside whatever till you use, including competitors' systems. Use both and they share one dataset; LOOP POS merchants get 50% off PEKO.
We do not describe LOOP POS as a loyalty platform, and we do not describe PEKO as a POS. If a vendor tells you one product does both jobs equally well, ask to see the retention reporting and the kitchen routing in the same demo.
Frequently asked
Can I run loyalty without changing my POS?
Yes. PEKO enrols members by QR code or receipt photo, so it works on top of the POS you already run.
Does LOOP POS have any customer features?
LOOP POS records customers on tickets for operational purposes. Retention campaigns, churn prediction and win-back messaging live in PEKO.
Is a built-in loyalty module ever the right choice?
For a single outlet running a simple stamp card, yes — the convenience wins. Once you are messaging segments or measuring win-back, a dedicated platform pays for itself.
