How does FPS payment work for restaurants in Hong Kong?
Direct answer · updated
In 2026, FPS is Hong Kong's real-time interbank rail and the simplest way for a restaurant to take digital payment. LOOP generates one dynamic per-ticket QR that Alipay HK, WeChat Pay HK, PayMe, Octopus Wallet and every HK bank app can scan; money arrives in real time at zero or near-zero cost.
FPS (Faster Payment System) is HKMA's real-time interbank payment rail. The POS generates a dynamic per-ticket QR; customer scans with any HK bank app or e-wallet (Alipay HK, WeChat Pay HK, PayMe, Octopus Wallet); funds settle in real-time with zero or near-zero fees. LOOP auto-reconciles each FPS payment to the originating ticket.
How it works with LOOP
LOOP generates the FPS QR from the ticket total, so there is no keypad entry and no wrong amount. Because FPS settles interbank in real time, the payment confirmation closes the ticket while the guest is still at the table. LOOP stores the FPS reference against the order, which makes refunds and disputes traceable and removes the end-of-day reconciliation that Octopus-only venues still do manually.
Key facts
- FPS adoption: 82% HK F&B (2026)
- Real-time interbank settlement
- Near-zero fees
- Works with all HK bank apps + e-wallets
